MoneyWorks is the ideal back-office solution for your accounting needs. Find out how to integrate MoneyWorks with your own software systems.

MoneyWorks is extensible. This means that developers can add additional functionality using applications such as Visual Basic, FileMaker Pro, MS Office , Perl , AppleScript Delphi, Access etc, with MoneyWorks acting as an integrated back-office accounting solution.

This means that you, as a developer, can focus on the special needs of your clients or application. You can 'hook' your software into MoneyWorks to submit or extract accounting information, enhancing functionality for your clients. If you've developed your own application, you'll be able to promote it to a wider audience, resulting in more sales.

How does it work?

On Windows, MoneyWorks supports COM (the technology that underpins OLE Automation and VB). So from another COM compliant application (such as Access, Word, Excel, VB) you can easily extract and submit records to the MoneyWorks internal databases.

On Macintosh, MoneyWorks supports AppleEvents. This enables you to write scripts in AppleScript to manipulate data from MoneyWorks, or link MoneyWorks seamlessly to FileMaker Pro, Excel, RealBasic and other applications.

For FileMaker Pro developers, we have prepared a plug-in that allows seamless integration between Filemaker Pro and MoneyWorks. From your customised FileMaker Pro front end you can extract information directly from MoneyWorks, and also send information (invoices, orders, time sheets etc) directly to MoneyWorks. There are two plug-ins (one for Windows and a Universal Binary one for Mac). Both these plug-ins provide the same command set, so a single FileMaker database can talk to MoneyWorks using the same commands, regardless of platform. The plug-ins work with FileMaker Pro 7 and later.

Plug-ins and tutorial for FileMaker 7 - 10 (300k) This requires MoneyWorks Gold 5 (either the demo or the full version), and FileMaker Pro 7 or later (either the demo or the full version). Plug-ins for Windows and MacOSX are included, and need to be installed into the "Extensions" folder in the "FileMaker Pro 7" folder. The Mac plug-in is a Universal Binary, and will not run in the Classic environment. For more details of the commands, please see the MoneyWorks Automation Guide.

FileMaker Pro 5.5 - 7 Tutorial (350k). This requires MoneyWorks Gold (either the demo or the full version), and FileMaker Pro 5 - 7 (either the demo or the full version). Plug-ins for Windows and MacOSX are included, and need to be installed into the "Extensions" folder in the "FileMaker Pro 7" folder.

Using Visual Basic, you can create applications that communicate directly with MoneyWorks. Although we don't at present have any samples posted, take a look at the VBA script in the MS Office examples above to see what you need to do.

A third party Perl script is available from here. It uses the Command Line Interface to talk directly to MoneyWorks Datacenter, and is a great starting point for Perl programmers who want to hook up an ecommerce site to MoneyWorks.

For a sample AppleScript that creates a direct debit file for the National Bank of New Zealand from the highlighted receivables, click here (Mac only). Note that the individual files need to be located in the appropriate folders in the 'MoneyWorks Custom Plug-ins' folder -- you will see this when you download the script. The script is activated from the Command menu in MoneyWorks.
